Our newest project at Write the on my Heart is a 31-week study through the book of Proverbs. This new book includes all the features you’ve come to know and love in Write the Word on my Heart, but introduces two new features as well.
A page for study:
This new section introduces the concept of Bible Study. Each verse still includes a coloring page that can be torn out and displayed. But in addition, we’re including a page to introduce concepts like searching for keywords, repeating ideas or topics (Proverbs has lots of them), even “rhema” words, where the Lord brings makes a verse alive as you read. We’re hoping that sometime during the week, you will read the full chapter of Proverbs together. Maybe more than once. And while you read together—what do your kids notice? What do you notice? Help them fill in the blanks on their study page. Did they notice a word over and over in the chapter? How many times did they hear it? Did they notice a repeating theme from another chapter in Proverbs? Does one verse remind them of another they already know? These are all ways we study the Bible. And you know what? As you read, you may find a verse that stands out to you far more than the one I chose. That’s one of the main reasons I chose to add this page. Because as you read, we expect the Lord will begin to make other verses in the chapter alive to you. That’s how it should be. And I wanted our children to have a spot to record those “extra discoveries” that they make on their own, as you’re reading together.
And one-page family devotional:
This “How Does This Apply to Me” section is written in such a way that you should be able to read it directly to your child(ren). When I chose one verse from each chapter in Proverbs (which was not easy), the thought I had in front of me was always—will this help a young child? And yes, of course, the Lord can use any verse to speak to a young child, but with each verse chosen, there was some specific aspect that I saw to apply to a younger child (8-12ish). We hope this will lead to many discussions around the word and some of the wonderful topics that Proverbs covers. This can be read together as a family as you begin the week, or it can be read at the end, as you conclude. Our suggestion would be to read it together as part of a family devo time as you introduce the verse at the beginning of the week—but you will know what works best for your family.
This study and memorization guide through the book of Proverbs is recommended for ages 8-12.
